Welcome to CBD. If your knowledge of English is the only thing between you and a meaningful life in the United States, you’ve come to the right place. At CBD College, students become proficient in English conversation and composition while gaining a wide range of important vocational skills. Guided by a professional and dedicated staff, students enroll in a challenging and comprehensive curriculum that suits their individual needs. But the best part of CBD is the sense of community. Friendships develop beyond the classroom among students and staff, and CBD continues to provide cultural and career guidance for a promising future.

The mission of CBD College is to address linguistic and vocational needs of students by providing them with the skills and technical knowledge necessary for securing gainful employment.

The institutional goals are to provide quality educational programs that can be completed in a relatively short time period and which give students the tools necessary for immediate and productive employment.


COLLEGE HISTORY

Community Based Education and Development, Inc. doing business as CBD College , first offered its English Language Program in 1982.  Since then, it has grown to be one of Los Angeles ’ best resources for English language instruction, vocational training, and career counseling for students of all nationalities, interests and means.

As the College became more structured, professional staff grew, and in 1994 CBD College received Course Approval from the State of California .  In 1996, the College was incorporated as a non-profit public benefit organization.

In order to validate the professional competence of our program and to help assure the effectiveness of its courses, CBD College sought and received National Accreditation from ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training) in 1997.


LOCATION, FACILITIES, AND INSTITUTIONAL EQUIPMENT

CBD College is located in the heart of Los Angeles at 5724 West 3rd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90036.

Housed in a modern, air-conditioned facility, the College is accessible to disabled students. To provide quality training and enhance classroom learning, the College uses modern training equipment, including video and audio tape recorders, well structured Vocational English as a Second Language videos, and current computer software. Personal computers are used in Computer Training classes, and every student has access to his/her own computer. The average VESL/Computer class ratio is 15 students to one Instructor. The maximum number of students in a classroom for each program is 20 students per class.
