Summer 2017 is coming, will you make the most of it?

Looking for things to for Summer 2017? We’ve got you covered with a list of things to do this season. From checking off your College To-Do List to checking out a summer blockbuster. Read on to dispel your couch potato habits and make the most of the heat wave on its way.

1. Practice Wellness and Get Outside

Take a class near you, whether you’re interested in cooking, glassblowing, or just to better yourself!  Sign up for Verlocal LA or use a Groupon to save some money.  If you’re looking for something free and super close by, your local park is bound to have free summer wellness events or available equipment.  Even places like the Baldwin Hill Scenic Overlook, Balboa Park, or the North Hollywood Recreation Center offer areas to get your fitness on.  Don’t forget CBD College now offers Wellness Wednesday.  For an hour of yoga and meditation every Wednesday from 2 PM-3 PM, visit the Auditorium.  Keep these dates in your calendar and drop in on a session:

• July:  12, 19, 26- Open your Root Chakra which affects your foundation of feelings grounded
• August: 2, 9, 16, 23, 30- Open your Sacral Chakra which affects your intuition and emotional center

2. Catch a Summer Flick

•  For the horror movie enthusiast: It Comes at Night (June 9)

Imagine the end of the world- Now imagine something worse. This horror film follows a man (Joel Edgerton) as he learns that the evil stalking his family home may be only a prelude to horrors that come from within. “Secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world, the tenuous domestic order he has established with his wife and son is put to the ultimate test with the arrival of a desperate young family seeking refuge. “

•  For Girls Night: Rought Night (June 16)

“Five best friends (Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer, Zoë Kravitz) from college reunite 10 years later for a wild bachelorette weekend in Miami. Their hard partying takes a hilariously dark turn when they accidentally kill a male stripper. Amid the craziness of trying to cover it up, the frenzy brings them closer.”

• 100 % on Rotten Tomatoes Alert!: Baby Driver (June 28)

Talented getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) relies on the “beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After meeting the woman (Lily James) of his dreams, he sees a chance to ditch his shady lifestyle and make a clean break. Coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), Baby must face the music as a doomed heist threatens his life, love, and freedom. “

• For Superhero– lovers: Spider-man: Homecoming (July 7)

Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker (Tom Holland) returns home to live with his Aunt May. Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace his newfound identity as Spider-Man. He also tries to return to his normal daily routine.   However, he is distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighborhood superhero.

• For the Feminist James Bond Buff: Atomic Blonde (July 28)

Agent Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality, and savagery.  She’s willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on an impossible mission. Sent alone to Berlin to retrieve a priceless dossier from within the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through a deadly game of spies.

• For the Oscar Best Pic: Detroit (August 4)

The next politically charged Kathryn  Bigelow film centers on a police raid in Detroit in 1967, resulting in one of the largest citizen uprisings in United States history

3. Hear LIVE music for Free

Listen to free jazz at LACMA

Jazz at LACMA features the art of jazz as practiced by leading Southern California artists. Celebrating over twenty years at LACMA, the program continues to be one of the museum’s most recognizable offerings.

Enjoy events for the whole family everywhere from Center City Anaheim to Chinatown, Hammer Museum to the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara, Union Station to the California African American Museum.

 

Twilight Concerts every Thursday at the Santa Monica Pier

LA’s favorite tradition returns Junes 22nd, with headliner including Khalid, LeMaitre, Marcia Griffiths, and Eric Burdon and the Animals.  Just remember, keep the beaches clean!

Levitt Pavilion concerts in Pasadena every Thursday through Sunday.
