Danny is one of CBD College’s biggest contributors when it come to community outreach and student life. In the past 3 months alone, Mr. Salazar helped CBD reach its goal for their annual Toy Drive. He also brought grocery bags full of food for during our partnership with the LA Food Bank– twice.
When we first asked Ms. Joy Hernandez if she thought Danny would be a qualified candidate to interview, she sang his praises. It goes without saying that Danny Salazar has left his mark on CBD College as much as it has impacted his future. Read his story below.
Why did you choose CBD College?
I chose CBD College because I wanted to secure a promising future for me and my family. I knew I wanted a career in the medical field. I came in for the campus tour and was impressed with the facility.
What program are you in? What does that entail?
I am currently in the Pharmacy Tech Program. It is a 9 month program which includes 2 months of externship at a retail pharmacy. In class we study Drugs, their classifications, and uses. We also learn all aspects of retail pharmacies, compounding pharmacies, and hospital settings.
How did you decide to pursue Pharmacy Tech?
At my previous job I was stuck in an office for 60 hours a week. I never saw my family and I was miserable. I also have a lot of retail experience but didn’t want to work every weekend until 9-10pm. I decided to go back to school and get training to provide me the opportunity to work for a company that wouldn’t need me 60 hours a week.
Who is your favorite instructor at CBD?
It is a tie. Ms. Hernandez and Mr. Stewart are amazing instructors. They remain very involved with every person in the class. They both make themselves available for students after class for one on one instruction to help students who have any questions regarding our lectures.
What is your most difficult class at CBD?
I have trouble remembering my top 200 Drugs. Each drug has a Brand/Generic name which can be confusing at times. Luckily, our instructors have extensive experience. They show us tricks to make it easier remember each of the names.
What would you tell anyone who is interested in becoming an Pharmacy Technician?
I’d recommend the Pharmacy Technician program to anyone looking to obtain valuable training for a career in the medical field. We have students of all ages, shapes, sizes, and colors. Coming back to school doesn’t have a deadline.
Where do you work outside of school?
I am currently a student aid here at the school. I work directly with the administration and faculty assisting them with any office duties they may have.
What is it like balancing work, study, and family?
It can be difficult, but you set yourself up for success by increasing your odds of being successful. Family always comes first. I treat my job and schooling very seriously and they are both priorities. In my 5th month, I have found a comfortable balance between all of my priorities.
What are your favorite things to do outside of the classroom?
I love playing with my kids and my dog, making people laugh, and I love to exercise. I also love Mother Nature so I have a lot of plants and trees that require my attention.
When is your expected graduation date?
I will be graduating in June 2017. It is a very good feeling starting something and completing it.
