Cadaver Lab Field Trip

Published - November 22, 2015

On Wednesday November 18, 2015, the esteemed Loma Linda School of Medicine allowed the students in our wonderful Surgical Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs to tour their Anatomy and Physiology Laboratories. During their tour students were able to get up close and personal with the cadavers, which were donated through the university’s Willed Body Program. Students were treated to an anatomy and physiology breakdown by a school physician and were allowed to ask questions about the human body.

“(It was) entertaining, educational, and incredibly enthralling!” said David Prados, who is a Diagnostic Medical Sonography student at CBD College.

The Willed Body Program allows members of the general public to donate their bodies to science after they die. Doctors, dentists, nurses and other allied health professionals use donated bodies such as those donated to Loma Linda’s program to gain a thorough understanding of the systems of the human body.

“(It was) strange but an oddly comfortable experience,” said John Barras, DMS Student at CBD College, who along with other students was amazed and awestruck at the intricacies of the human body. It was definitely an educational and rewarding expe-rience for everyone in attendance. The day proved to be as much fun as it was interesting and informative. A great time was had by all!

The Loma Linda School of Medicine could not continue to offer the crucial Willed Body Program were it not for the donors who so generously donated their bodies to be used in education. If you would like to donate your organs or your body for transplants or research purposes it’s not enough to have an organ donor sticker on your driver’s license. If you would like your body to be donated for this purpose please contact the organization of your choice and register your will.
